Origin: Counter Terrorism Policing arrests five British nationals in Gloucestershire
Five men were arrested in Gloucestershire on suspicion of terror and explosives offences linked to a plot against RAF Fairford. All five are British nationals. Armed officers moved in after three suspicious vehicles were seen heading toward the air base used by US forces.
About 85 households around Whelford were evacuated while specialists examined the vehicles. An Army bomb disposal team attended and a major incident was declared near the airfield.
A local farmer driving home before dawn found three white vans left blocking a country lane. Moments later she saw masked men running into nearby trees and fields toward RAF Fairford and called police.
